Mainly it is used for estimating the bearing capacity of the shallow foundations for ensuring proper designing of the flexible pavement. During the test process a steel plate is goes through the increasing load along with the settlements of the recorded plates. One the load wherein the plate starts sinking rapidly, it is then the maximum bearing capacity is noted.
