The Marshall Stability Test Equipment is mainly used for determining the stability of the bituminous samples that are used by contractors, laboratories and government agencies. The equipment is specifically designed to measure the resistance of the plastic flow of the cylindrical specimen for the bituminous paving of the loaded mixture on a flat surface.

The test samples and made available and is tested at a speed which is approximately 50.8mm/mi. The highest load (stability) along with the deformation, i.e. flow, of the sample is recorded. Normally, the test is suitable for hot mixing designs with the help of maximum size bitumen and aggregate of highest size, i.e. 25mm. The machine is specifically used for the purpose of evaluating and fabricating the bituminous paving mixes.
